David T. Weatherbee, 69

David T. Weatherbee, 69, died suddenly Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Marlborough Hospital in Marlborough Massachusetts.
Born in Cambridge, he was raised in Belmont, the son of the late Roland and Edna (Tedesco) Weatherbee, and was a graduate of Belmont High School, class of 1963, and Springfield College, where he received a Bachelor’s degree. Dave also went on to receive a Master’s degree from Worcester State College.
Dave retired in June 2004 after 38 years in the Marlborough School System, where he had been a Physical Education teacher and coach for a wide range of sports. He was a member of the Marlborough Teachers Union, and the Massachusetts Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.  An avid gardener and golfer, Dave was equally happy on a rolling golf course or in the garden he cherished. A lover of animals, Dave cared for his three cats, Buzz, Thelma, and of course Louise. All of whom were rescue cats. Dave sponsored a variety of charities including veterans groups, environmental groups and animal advocacy groups.
His memory is carried on by his former wife, Janice S. Weatherbee, daughter, Beth A. Drazak and her husband Mark of Cromwell, CT, daughter, Debra R. Connors of Millville, and son Kurt T. Weatherbee of Mendon. He leaves behind his sisters, Gail Weatherbee of Tewksbury, Jeanne Conley of Waltham, and was predeceased by his sister Lois Clouse and his brother Firefighter Roland “Rollie” Weatherbee. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Caitlyn and Michael Drazak, and Kyle Connors. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom he adored. Dave will be dearly missed by all the friends and loved ones he has met and known over the years. He brought much love and joy into the lives of all he met and this will be what we remember most.
Visiting hours at the Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home 46 Water St. Milford, will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 4-8PM, followed by a Memorial Service at 8PM. Burial will be held at a later date. It was just a while back I heard about Dave. He was one of my Springfield College classmates and a dear friend. I got to work with him while he was at Marlborough a lot as I would build ropes courses or make repairs at the schools. It is true the good die young. I am so sorry for you all. You were only in our lives for a short time Boston but we made memories touched each other lives and found a home in each other's heart. You were intelligent, witty, and had a love for adventure, life, family and friends. Your lit up a room with your smile and laugh. I loved starting and ending the day with our daily talks. A picture of you we carry in our hearts and your memory in our souls. Our prayers go out to your family and friends. My family and I have lived next door to Dave for the last 12 years. He had a love for his cats, planting vegetables and gardening and was an inspiration to us with our own landscaping. He was always helpful and gave great advice. We will miss his cheerful, booming voice and the many conversations. Rest in paradise Dave!
Richard and Paula Brown

Reading of Dave's passing brings tears to my eyes as I remember how he could take any situation and twist it to funny or ridiculous. He was a great guy who you just wanted to be around; his consideration of others stands out in my memories of BHS. To the Weatherbee family, I am deeply saddened to hear of your loss.
Linda-Lou Holden Gilbert

My deep condolences to Janice and the Weatherbee family. A true loss. As another BHS '63 classmate, I checked the yearbook and there was a typical note (largely indecipherable) from Dave about some hi-jinks on a trip to the Cape. Can't replace good folks like him, with his wit (although I seem to recall he would write jokes down that he had heard and carried them around in his wallet for later use on us), good nature, sincerity and just being a great guy. Godspeed, Dave Drew Ley

How does one take a lifetime of memories when you have known Janice and David since we were five years old in kindergarten? I am deeply sadden by David's sudden death! The history of knowing his mother and father, brothers and sisters and his children who always made me feel welcome in their lives. I will miss his humor and deep friendship for all of those 64 years and the accomplishments we made together, as individuals, as educators and the challenges we faced in life. Love you and your memory will be fresh in my heart,
David Crisafulli

My deepest sympathy to all of David's family. Dave is one of my dearest friends, we spoke weekly. I am shocked and deeply saddened by his passing. He was one of the funniest, most sincere and big hearted men I have ever known. A sensitive gentleman, a credit to his parents and family. He often spoke of his children and grandchildren, all of whom he revered. He possessed the ability to make everyone feel important and loved. I am proud to call him my friend. I shall miss him.

Sorry for the loss of Mr. Weatherbee. I had him for a gym teacher some 40+ years ago at Farm Road school. I have fond memories of the gym shows he put together. I remember him as being an all around nice person then and when I ran into him in later years. RIP Mr. Weather bee.
Marie Penta Radivonyk

We were shocked to hear of David's death. He and Jan were special friends when John began his teaching/coaching career at Marlborough High School. He was always a "breath of fresh air" and we enjoyed a special relationship that continued throughout our MHS careers.
John and Judy Ludgate

Sorry for your loss. I loved having him as my gym teacher, back in the 70's at Farm Rd School. He always encouraged us girls to do whatever the boys could do, and was the first male role model teacher I had. He was the coolest. My thoughts are with you all. He will be greatly missed,MN and remembered, by many.
Carol Comfrey Branscombe

Dave and I worked together at Marlborough Middle School for 20 years. We also served on the Marlborough Educators Association bargaining team for nearly the same number of years. He was able to provide a lot of levity during some very stressful bargaining sessions, especially during those that went into the wee hours of the morning. I know that there are several people out there who fondly remember those times. Fortunately, we kept in touch after we both retired and enjoyed many retiree luncheons with people with whom we worked. I will miss the monthly phone calls inviting me for lunch at the Allora in recent years. We have lost another of the good guys. Rest in peace my friend. I will sorely miss you.
Roland Toohey

Janice, Beth, Deb, Kurt and the rest of Dave's family you have my deepest sympathy for your loss.

Mildred Santiago

Dave helped to get me started on my path at MHS as a foods/health teacher and eventually guidance counselor. I will forever appreciate his support and fellowship through the years. Good social times too spent with mutual friend(s). Rest in peace....

I was privileged to have had Mr.Weatherby as my 6th grade physical education teacher. Many years later as a music educator we worked together at Marlborough Middle School. He had a way of lighting up the teachers room and making everyone's day a little brighter. My condolences, he will be missed.

Dave was my gym teacher at Farm Road school and made it fun all the time, even square dancing when none of us wanted to do it! He quick, sarcastic wit wasn't lost on me as I was the youngest in my family and "got it" even at the age of six! I later taught with Dave in Marlboro and got to know him as a great Dad and person! Rest in peace Mr. Weatherbee.
