Robert L. Crandall, 72,

Robert L. Crandall, 72, of Hopedale, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, January 29, 2021 at his home, after a courageous battle with Lymphoma.  Bob was the husband of Donna M. (Thomas) Crandall for 49 years. He was born in Milford, son of the late Frederick and Muriel (Kane) Crandall, and lived there until moving to Hopedale in 1983. He was a graduate of the Milford High School class of 1967 and was a U.S. Army Vietnam Era veteran.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Robert F. Crandall and wife Katherine of Bellingham and their sons Thomas and Matthew, Michelle M. Crandall-McBride and wife Katie of Holliston and their children Michael and Molly. He also leaves two nephews who were like sons, Michael Curley and wife Irene of Upton, and James Curley of Hopedale. In addition, he leaves his sister Patricia Curley of Hopedale, brother-in-law David and wife Jeanette of Milford, his adored Uncle Bernard Kane and wife Marie of Ashland, and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bob was employed as a patrolman for the Milford Police Department until 1973. He then became a Massachusetts Trial Court Officer at the Milford District Court House where he would stay for the next 35 years. He retired in 2008, shortly after his first grandchild was born.  From that day on his last, and favorite, profession would be “Bumpa Extrordaniarre.”  He often would be found with one of his grandchildren, be it on an early morning fishing excursion, at a sporting event, or at a dance recital.

Bob was a member of the Maspenock Rod and Gun Club, and an avid hunter and fisherman.  He always looked forward to his yearly trips to Pennsylvania with his friends and son Bobby, and delighted in teaching his grandchildren how to shoot a bow, and cast a line.  He and Donna cherished vacations with family and friends; especially to Newport, Lake Keewaydin, Ogunquit and Disney.

Bob also took pleasure in time at home; whether it was a quiet night with just he and Donna, a small family dinner with one of his children and their family, or all the relatives over for a backyard cookout.

A calling hour will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2021 from 10 to 11 A.M. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church 5 East Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 A.M. The burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Consigli Ruggerio Funeral Home 46 Water St. Milford MA 01757

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Oliva Family Comfort Fund 20 Prospect St. Milford MA 01757

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Bob's passing while conversing with a former Milford resident at a car show in Dennis last evening. I knew Bob from Milford PD and also when he worked at the Court House. I was stationed at SP Grafton and would see Bob at Court House on a weekly basis. We would play softball against the team from the court house and had many a laugh. God bless you, Bob, and rest in eternal peace. My sincerest condolences to your family for their loss.

I worked with Bob at the courthouse. I was just a kid back then, but Bob never cared about that. He treated me the same way he treated everyone...like a friend. I am happy to say that we kept in touch over the years and I always looked forward to his visits. Bumping into Bob always brought out a big smile because seeing Bob was always a treat. Bob gave the best handshakes. They were firm and heartfelt and he pulled you right in. I will miss our comical text exchanges and our occasional chats and stories. I will never forget Bob...he was truly one of the best guys I have ever known. Rest easy Bobby.

Bob, Even though our paths haven't crossed for the 50 years since we graduated from MHS in 1967 I can see from the many comments here you remained the same great guy I caught for in the Blackstone Valley Baseball league those many years ago. You always did have the best fastball I ever caught. My best wishes to your entire family who had the pleasure of knowing you for a lifetime. Fred Tieuli

I’m so heartbroken for all of you. Uncle Bob was such a big part of everyone’s lives. You could see the joy he felt when he was with you all. He was quick to smile and share a good story, and despite his age, he really did have the playfulness and mischief of a child. I will always remember his full-belly laugh when he jumped out and surprised someone! His helpfulness and kindness will always be remembered. Now he will live on through all of us. I am thankful to have known him and called him family for so long. My heart is with you all during this painful time. 💔
